Interview With Benjamin Stone
Interview By: Elisheva
So we’re going to play a little game called Top 3.
Top 3 songs on your iPod: It’s really difficult because I’m trying to think of songs I really like. The acoustic version of “Pardon Me” by Incubus, there’s a Justice and Justin Timberlake “LoveStoned” remix, and probably, Justin Nozuka, “After Tonight.”
Top 3 books: The High Lord [by Trudi Canavan], and I’d also say, oh I just finished A Storm of Swords [by George R. R. Martin], that was really good.
Top 3 movies : Lord of the Rings, which I’m going to say all three because they’re great, I would say The Matrix, and Independence Day.
Top 3 foods: Thai Food and Mexican Food.
Top 3 super powers: Flying, strength, and being invisible.
Top 3 actress crushes: Natalie Portman, Olivia Wilde, and Jessica Alba.
Top 3 dream roles: Jack Bauer on 24, Ari Gold on Entourage, and Batman.
Top 3 places to escape to: Thailand, Australia, and Portugal.
And since you’re such a big trip planner, if you could travel to any city, where would you go and why?
I would like to go to French Polynesia. So anywhere there, like Bora Bora.
So first thing’s first, how were the Teen Choice Awards?
Really good, really fun, it was a crazy environment. It was really nice as well because it was the first time we got to meet fans of the show because I haven’t really done that yet, I haven’t been about, I didn’t get to go to the comic con show, so being there and meeting fans was really fun.
Any crazy girls running after you?
No, no, no, everyone was pretty tamed, pretty behaved!
What was it like being nominated for Choice TV Breakout Show, and Skyler being nominated for Choice TV Breakout Star?
It was great, we didn’t expect it at all. I mean, most of the show didn’t even air yet and we didn’t think of it so it was a nice little surprise. Of course there was tough competition but we do have amazing passionate and loyal fans so there was a chance but it was great just to even be nominated.
Did you anticipate the response that the show would get?
Everybody on the show loves the show so we all knew and hoped that it would be a good, solid show and we were expecting people to realize it but it’s always kind of a pipe dream so when it does actually happen it really is an amazing feeling that everything that you do connects to people.
A Cast promo for ‘The Nine Lives of Chloe King’
For those who don’t know, can you give a quick synopsis of what ‘The Nine Lives of Chloe King’ is?
It’s basically a supernatural teen drama revolving around a teen girl who around her sixteenth birthday finds out that she’s not human at all, she’s actually part of an ancient race called Mai, who are being hunted by humans, and is kind of lost in chaos. And she finds out that her job is the “uniter”, so she not only finds out that she’s Mai, but she’s also sort of a prophecy being hailed as the one who has to save the race, so she has to deal with those responsibilities while also dealing with life and school life and her mom.

Watch our interview with the amazing Ben Stone below:
In the interview, Ben tries to explain why he thinks a lot of fans are Team Alek.
@BenJStone: Just to clarify, we don’t know yet about a second season, but we’re hopeful as long as all the amazing fan support continues.
This means that the whole cast are loving the show as much as we are “dying” [not literally] to see another season of “The Nine Lives of Chloe King.” We, fans, need to support the show, we need to show how much we love TNLOCK. We can do that by liking the official Facebook page of TNLOCK, click here. Post there as much as you can, let’s make ABC Family hear that we would love them more if they give TNLOCK a second season.
Seventeen.com exclusively interviewed Benjamin Stone. In this interview, Benjamin shows off his softer side, talking about his character’s budding relationship with Chloe and what he looks for in a girl.
Seventeen: Things are really heating up on the show with your character! Are you personally on Team Alek or Team Brian? Who do you think is better for Chloe?
Benjamin Stone: I think I’m team Alek. I couldn’t bring myself to give Grey [Damon] the satisfaction of saying Brian!
17: What is it about the two of them together that you like so much?
BS: You always want what you can’t have, and, in a way, it’s like that with Alek. He really wants Chloe, and it’s frustrating to see how she literally ignores all of his advances at her. But eventually, in a kind of desperation, she does fall for him, in that moment. I think it’s always exciting. I love their banter and their wit. That fuels their chemistry. In real life, that’s what I like. I like girls who can make fun of me and I can make fun of them. It’s all friendly! I think that’s exciting and keeps your relationship fresh.
17: For Alek, perseverance has paid off. Have you ever pursued a girl after she said no?
BS: I met my current girlfriend when I was 8. So, I mean, 16 years is a long time to wait! It was hardcore perseverance.
17: Before you guys started dating, what were looking for in a girl?
BS: Someone who’s independent, strong-willed, and knows what she wants. Obviously, a funny person to be with, an exciting person to be with. Someone who keeps me on my toes. I think having a girl you can consistently have interesting and in-depth conversations with is one of the best things.
17: Going back to the show, what do you guys do for fun as a cast?
BS: We’ve been trying to organize a paintballing day! Literally, Grey is going around recruiting half the grips and stunt guys. He’s got together an army of paintballers. He’s like, “Oh, I’ve got my three friends who are, like, NFL players and they’re going to come and they’re really big.” Like, why are you bringing some Superman-army to play? We’re going to get destroyed!
17: What’s the coolest thing about the finale, that we should all be excited about?
BS: The twists. There are so many twists in the episode. You won’t be able to predict what happens, and that is just the best thing about it. It’s totally unpredictable. Every scene has something going on where you’re just like, “No way,” which all leads up to the next season. It’s just going to be shocking all around!
OMG! Yep, we have a new family member! Made by me and Monique, we have ‘Queens of Youtube’! It is for Avery, Christina Grimmie, and Megan & Liz Mace! Check it out here: http://queensofyoutube.com/
Dana Ward and Joslyn Davis sat down with Benjamin Stone of ‘The Nine Lives Of Chloe King’. He talks about auditioning for his character Alek, the love triangle on the show, working with the cast on set and shooting on location in San Francisco.
Since Alek is a descendant of the Mai also, what makes Chloe different from him in regards to their abilities?
Chloe is the “Uniter,” so she not only has the basic power of every Mai, the claws, super hearing, agility, and night vision, but she also is an empath, which means she experiences directly what a person is feeling on an emotional level. And also she has nine lives, which is pretty awesome, whereas I have one life, like a schmuck.
Can you talk about the Order and any run-ins Alek has had with them since the death of his parents?
I can’t say too much about what happened in terms of my background with the Order, but I can tell you in general about Mai. They are constantly sort of hunting us, but they’ve only really just come back into the scene because they weren’t really worried until the Uniter kind of appeared and showed herself. Now that Chloe is out and about they’ve kind of really started stepping up their organization, and they now are only just now really trying to find Chloe and kill her and eliminate the rest of the Mai. But until now, they have been pretty dormant.
How did you get connected to The Nine Lives of Chloe King? How did you start working with them?
Just the usual place. I was in LA auditioning and I got called in for an audition for this. I remember reading it and thinking, because a lot of times you get auditions and you read it and you know whether it is something you could do really well or it is something you would kind of have to really try hard at and hope that you do a good job, but somebody else probably would get it just because they are more that person or they look better. But I read it and I immediately thought, even reading the character break down, I was like “I think I can do this.”
I went in to audition and it was actually also the busiest audition I’d ever been to. I actually waited for half an hour and then I went away, grabbed dinner, came back and waited half an hour and then went in, and it was absolute mayhem, there were so many people there. Everybody, all of the other cast said the same thing for their characters. There were just so many people. Then I got called back and then tested and met with the director and producer, and then eventually got the role.
